Pom Pom Squad in New York

On a chilly Wednesday evening in New York City, Pom Pom Squad warmed up the stage for indie rock band The Happy Fits. Although they were billed as an opener, frontwoman Mia Berrin and her bandmates burst onstage right on time much to the excitement of fans in the audience. The group opened their set with the first song off their 2024 album, Mirror Starts Moving Without Me, titled “Downhill.” This upbeat song was followed up with “Spinning,” a personal favorite of mine,” and “Street Fighter,” which was dedicated to Mia’s mom, as the song features an opening line in honor of what she used to say to Mia when Mia was young. Pom Pom Squad performed a well-balanced mix of songs off both Mirror Starts Moving Without Me as well as songs from their previous projects; a highlight of the set was when they played a cover of "Crimson & Clover” by Tommy James & the Shondells. Throughout the set, it was evident that the band were excited to be there, especially given the fact that they are based out of Brooklyn, New York. The band is always a fun one to watch, with this recent concert being my second time seeing and photographing them just this year alone!

Overall, Pom Pom Squad delivered an electrifying and fun set and closed out their time onstage with “Head Cheerleader,” which is their most popular song to date. The band is wrapping up their time opening for The Happy Fits in Boston, Massachusetts, but you can stream Mirror Starts Moving Without Me wherever you listen to your music now!
