ONE OK ROCK has officially wrapped up the “North American Detox Tour” with their final two shows in Chicago and Minneapolis. The Chicago show took place at Uptown’s Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom to a packed house of loyal fans. The “Detox” Tour marks the band’s first return to Chicago since opening for Muse back in 2023 and celebrates the release of their newest album, Detox, as well as the band’s 20th Anniversary.
Hailing from Japan, ONE OK ROCK, is made up of lead singer, Taka, bass guitar and guitarists Ryota and Toru, and drummer Tomoya. The group formed in 2005 and has since released ten studio albums including Detox.
The show opened with each of the members making their entrance with an explosive performance of “Puppets Can’t Control You (Japanese Version).” The setlist was mostly compiled with tracks from their most recent projects including Luxury Disease, Dystopia, and the aforementioned Detox with a few fan favorites peppered in.
Lead singer, Taka shined with an insane stage presence and clearly seasoned vocals that soared through the bands hard rock material. The instrumentalists of the band also had endless moments to shine, even showing off their skills with a completely instrumental performance.
Toward the end of the show, Taka took a moment to thank fans for coming out to the show and sharing his gratitude for their success and how important music is during this time in politics “...with music it doesn’t matter, hope to the future. Doesn’t matter countries, languages, cultures, sexes. Doesn’t matter.”
ONE OK ROCK is a testament to how music can transcend language and borders, with fans confidently shouting lyrics and dancing throughout the set. The band was able to show off what makes fans so drawn to them to begin with, and even teased to stay tuned for the next few years as they prepare their next album and tour. Until then, make sure to check out Detox.
