Ninajirachi and MGNA Crrrta in Pittsburgh

This dynamic duo, made up of Karen Khan and Ginger Scott, based out of New York City has been following Ninajirachi on her Beautiful Disaster Finale tour.  After seeing the girls perform with bubble guns and bright lights in Montreal at Palomosa last September, Stage AE in Pittsburgh was a completely different environment.

MGNA Crrrta said on Thursday September 24th that this was their first time in Pittsburgh - and I hope we lived up to every expectation. With their newest remix of “Dancing On Your Grave” by Sencillo, you can tell the girls have been working hard and playing harder. MGNA Crrrta has a beautiful ability to make melancholic music that is so incredibly catchy and danceable. From their first song, “Armageddon / Seventh Heaven”, Pittsburgh was excited to dance and play with them from the beginning. The energy from song one onward set the mood for the evening. The girls alternated between their electronic set up and singing for the crowd. Sitting up above and looking down on the crowd, the people looked like particles dancing in an ocean, making waves. At one point, a mosh pit opened during, which had to be a brilliant feeling as an opener. Their songs are electric and shocked the crowd into vibrations.

MGNA Crrrta’s set of nostalgic electronic music that got the crowd moving was a perfect segue to Ninajirachi. Ninajirachi, otherwise known as Nina Jo Wilson, even brought out the girls out early on in her set, and the crowd loved seeing the return of MGNA Crrrta. Seeing an all girls DJ line up sell out one of the bigger venues in Pittsburgh was a beautiful sight to see. The crowd was unbeatable, too. From standard Wooks to aspiring queer DJs (to The Banana), this concert had something to offer everyone. Ninajirachi herself was a ball of positive energy. Every photo I took of her, she was smiling and excited. The audience could tell she wanted to be there just as much as they wanted to dance with her.  She had dual controllers on tables she alternated between with wires coming from all angles. This matched the visuals and her lyrics about her thoughts on computers.

Coming all the way from Australia and, similar to MGNA Crrrta, this was Ninajirachi’s first time in Pittsburgh. As with MGNA Crrrta, I hope our endless mosh pit obsession and “AY AY AY” chants lived up to every expectation.
