Melanie C, best known as Sporty Spice of the Spice Girls, has crafted her own artistic identity since her time with the group. Now, after 30 years in the industry, Melanie has blended both Melanie C and Sporty to create her own powerhouse act.  The “Sweat” tour is an extension of her newest album, Sweat, which was inspired by both her love of fitness and house music, respectively. The Chicago show took place at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall - a venue fittingly known for hosting EDM artists.

The energy was high, with fans who’ve waited 30 years to see their favorite Spice in person. She opened the show with “Undefeated Champion,” accompanied by a talented live band fused with her electronic music. The live aspect of the tracks brought to life the already exhilarating songs from Sweat - including a particularly groovy rendition of “Til It Breaks.”

After taking us through EDM high after high, she stripped it down for an acoustic set. A new tradition for tour has been letting fans vote on select surprise songs on her Instagram before the show. As for Chicago, the vote was too close to call, so fans were treated with two surprise songs! The first of the two was a deep cut, “Reason,” which is also the title track of her 2003 album Reason - Followed by the first Spice song of the night, “Say You’ll Be There,” a staple where Mel was able to let her vocals really shine.  The energy was immediately shifted with Melanie jumping head first back into the title track, “Sweat.” 

Another signature of Melanie C, has been her love of DJing. Before closing out her show, she showed off her chops with a set - which lead us into fan-favorite Spice Girls anthems “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Spice Up Your Life.” To officially close the show, after an encore featuring an unreleased club jam, was her iconic 99’ anthem “I Turn To You.”

While this tour is focused on Sweat, the show is a celebration of music from all throughout Melanie C’s vast career as both a Spice and a soloist. There truly is something for everyone - whether you’re a new fan or have waited since her debut, Melanie C’s “Sweat” is a master class in captivating your audience and getting them on their feet.
