On May 13th, the multi-talented, genre-crossing Lake Street Dive played a sold out show at The Paramount on Long Island, New York as part of their 2025 headlining tour. The group originally started as a "free country band" but evolved and adapted in order to achieve a broader sound, drawing influences from the swing era jazz and classic pop genres. The band currently consists of Rachael Price on lead vocals; Bridget Kearney on acoustic bass, electric bass, piano, and backing vocals; Mike Calabrese on drums, organ, and backing vocals; Akie Bermiss on keyboards, organ, and backing vocals; and James Cornelison on guitar and vocals.
Lead singer Rachael Price has previously stated that the group’s live performances and overall energy are shaped by the crowd that is currently in front of them, and this was definitely evident during their recent show in New York. After Canadian singer-songwriter Katie Tupper delivered a powerful set that blended honesty with comedy and soulful vocals, Lake Street Dive walked out onstage to a full house of cheering fans and launched into a flawless performance of “Good Together.” The set featured many songs across the group’s discography, including “Hypotheticals,” “Better Than,” and “Party on the Roof,” which ensured that the audience would get to hear hits, deep cuts, oldies, and new releases alike. Throughout the evening, fans were active participants in the set, clapping, singing, and dancing along to each song.
One highlight of the set was when the band played their fan favorite song, “Side Pony,” after noting that it had previously been retired from their shows. It was also nice to hear the band banter between songs as they introduced each other and talked about the inspiration behind their music. The group also featured three covers throughout their set — “I Want You Back” by The Jacksons, “You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain, and “Rich Girl” by Daryl Hall & John Oates.
After finishing a fantastic main set, Lake Street Dive closed out the encore by playing their hit song “Good Kisser” off their 2018 album, Free Yourself Up. Once the band left the stage, many of the concertgoers stuck around to sing and dance along to the post-show playlist, which highlighted the community of fans that Lake Street Dive united on Long Island that evening.
