Less than a year after her debut tour, Hannah Bahng made her triumphant return to Chicago with “The Misunderstood Tour.” The 21-year-old singer-songwriter hails from Australia and rose to fame through her social media presence. Since making her official debut as an artist in 20, she has amassed over 500k monthly listeners and performed all across the country, including a special appearance at SXSW.

“The Misunderstood Tour” is inspired by the EP of the same name, The Misunderstood EP, which marks the second project from the artist. The tour is a treat for long-time fans of the artist, with Bahng upping the production value of the show and playing sold-out shows in venues that pack in over a thousand more fans than her previous tour. The stage is immediately set with three platforms for her and her band, as well as a massive neon light featuring her mascot, Zymmie, which the singer designed herself.

The show opened with “What Never Lived,” the lead single from The Misunderstood EP, and a fan-favorite track since being played as an unreleased song on her first tour. Blues (fandom) were shouting back every word of their favorite songs, including performances of songs from her first EP, The Abysmal EP, all the way back to her debut b-sides with “Oleander.”

Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be a Hannah Bahng show without some surprises. Midway through the set, she announced she’d be bringing her “Perfect Blue,” a select fan of the night, on stage. A young fan was selected, and the two danced to RuPaul before leaving the stage. She also treated fans to two covers, a particular highlight being her sultry version of Britney Spears “...Baby One More Time,” and in the spirit of her first tour, a performance of a brand-new, unreleased song, Malibu.

After effortlessly traversing through silky vocals and numerous instruments throughout the set, the show officially ended with an encore featuring her aforementioned debut “perfect blues,” which left her Blues on a positive note with everyone screaming the lyrics to the classic back to her.

If you missed “The Misunderstood Tour” in Chicago, the show only marks the halfway point on her journey all throughout North America, with stops left on the West Coast, including numerous in California, Canada, and Mexico!
