International indie icon, dodie, brought her newest world tour to Chicago’s The Vic Theatre.

The tour departed hot off the release of her newest project Not For Lack Of Trying, which marks the artist's second full album since debuting on YouTube during the site's infancy. The USA leg of the tour departed in late February and has been making its way around the coasts before landing here in Chicago.

While the tour was primarily focused on tracks from the aforementioned Not For Lack Of Trying, dodie has always been an artist to pay respect to her entire discography. She opened the show with “Arms Unfolding,” the intro track from her 2019 Human EP - a fitting opening which explores the cycle of falling in love with someone after a falling out. The song transitioned into “Hot Mess,” an upbeat drum-driven anthem from the EP of the same name.

As the evening progressed, deeper cuts from her expansive discography brought a wave of nostalgia over fans - especially the transition from “Now” to “When.” Representing one of her newest tracks about finding light and positivity, to one of her oldest, which characterized a time in her life where she felt she was losing that light. During this particularly nostalgic section of the show, she also played fan-favorites “She” and “Human,” which are staples of OG fans of the artist.

Besides being an incredible songwriter and performer, dodie continuously brings a special level of humanity to all of her shows. Ever since she started touring, the artist consistently grips audiences with her connection to the stories she’s telling and with her charisma when interacting with fans.

To “end” the show, she brought the energy up with viral hit “Monster”, and finished her set with “Boys Like You,” a track about “fuck boys.” That was before, of course, coming back for an encore with a song fans voted on at the merch booth, which happened to be an acoustic version of “In The Middle,” one of her cheekiest songs - and officially wrapping up the show with “Darling, Angel, Baby,” an upbeat track about the undying love dodie has for her cat.

The show was an incredible showing for both new and old fans of dodie. If you missed the show in Chicago, you still have chances to see her all across the west-coast.
