Following the release of their debut EP, Moving Paint, the Detroit-based duo known as Dirt Room, recently embarked on a North American tour with antipop, Canadian artist, maxime. Pat Norton and Samuel Sprague, the masterminds behind Dirt Room, recently transitioned from indie rock to electroclash after being awarded two research grants from Wayne State University. They traded their five-piece band and guitars for drum machines, samples, and self-coded digital instruments in order to bring life to synths, electronics, and new wave pop.

While Dirt Room has been active since 2018, the duo we know them as now is excited to embark on a new journey that is dynamic, supersonic, and uniquely their own. Unique is the perfect way to describe their set at Grand Rapids’ Pyramid Scheme venue. As an opener for maxime., sandwiched between Grand Rapids’ own The American Hotel System and Pretoria, Pat and Samuel moved with the music and encouraged the crowd to move with them. Heavy on the ambient sound and light on lyrics, their move into the electroclash genre will definitely pave the way for future creatives looking for an artist to love and to look up to for inspiration.

We were able to meet with Dirt Room for some portraits before their set in Grand Rapids. The two, full of energy, were down for anything and radiated an attitude that proved they were happy to be touring and sharing their music with crowds across North America.
