BOYNEXTDOOR’s Home: Deluxe, An album that represents freedom

Article by Khari Forrest

BOYNEXTDOOR, the six member boy group under KOZ entertainment, owned by known rapper ZICO, recently released their repackaged album, Home: Deluxe. This album is their first repackaged album concept and one the members expressed “is supposed to represent freedom.”

BOYNEXTDOOR is known for their high energy, crazy live vocals and stage presence. This comeback is something that we have all looked forward to. As the days get shorter, the tracks on this album are sure to bring up your spirits if you feel the need to just jump up and dance. That’s exactly what this repackaged album is supposed to feel like.

The new track on this album which is a highlight and title track is “Animal”. The wildest and animalistic expression through the song is something that we haven’t seen too often from BOYNEXTDOOR.The concept of the lyrics and how it is being conveyed through their entire performance and choreography will truly speak to you. I feel as though this song is something that will surely make you get up and dance. BOYNEXTDOOR recently announced that they will be going on tour with a few stops in North America, making this release even more exciting. Not only are these tracks amazing, but the chance to see it live is now coming soon.

The second track is “CLICHE”. It opens with a fresh feeling that reminds me of an old school song. The instrumental is very fun and classy. The guitar stands out with a very soft and groovy vibe, with the members – Jaehyun, Taesan, and Woonhak – contributing to the song's production and lyrics. The next new addition to the album is “400 Years”, but it actually isn’t a new song at all. This track is actually one that the members created together a while back and is dedicated to their fans, known as onedoor,  who they want to be together with for “400 Years”. The song has a very Christmas-y and jingle bells vibe. It is a very soft and special song to have finally recorded for fans to now have endless access to. “Boom Boom Boom” is the last new track on Home: Deluxe. This track is the only track sung mainly in Japanese; which is something BOYNEXTDOOR is known for being great at. It’s a very upbeat and groovy song with a techno vibe to it. I truly think it’s a great and special edition to the album.

The album's overall message comes together really nicely. The messages are very intentional, even inspirational, to their audience and, if you aren’t familiar, they hold truly great meanings. Like the song “ADIOS!”, which has lyrics like:

Youth passes

Pain passes too

What’s left behind is a lingering sense of regret

Even that too passes, in the end, everything moved on

Too painful to stay as it is, oh aching youth

This is truly something to take the time to listen to. The tracks throughout the entire album are messages about love, relationships and youth, and how these are not something worth missing. Home: Deluxe  takes you through all the waves of emotions and that’s why the album is worth a listen.
