Adam Melchor brought an evening with Adam Melchor to Chicago’s Schubas Tavern. The six-stop tour marks Melchor’s first headlining tour in two years and the celebration of the release of his third studio album The Diary of Living. The album had released just one week prior to Adam Melchor’s sold-out return to Chicago with tracks featuring Mt. Joy and Bruno Major.
The intimate venue lent itself beautifully to an Adam Melchor show. Ever since his official debut in 2017, Melchor has mastered the art of a cozy show. Whether he was opening for dodie or Laufey, acoustic or full-band, Adam Melchor has a way of making his fans feel at home during his performances.
An evening with Adam Melchor serves as a release show for The Diary of Living. The unique setlist is composed of the entire album played through, with a full band, front-to-back. The setlist opened with track 1 of the album, “Boardwalk Royalty,” an epic that teases the stories told throughout the rest of the album. As stated by Adam, the album is about connecting with friends, past and present, and connecting with his roots growing up in New Jersey. Through each song, Melchor chronicles different relationships in numerous places around the US. Between a handful of songs in the set, he even took time to open up about the meaning of select tracks.
To finish the show Adam played through what he dubbed the ‘greatest hits,’ which was compiled of fan-favorite songs from his previous projects - opening with “Moon In The Morning,” and closing with indie smash-hit “Joyride.”
Fans called Melchor back for an encore, which he opened with an acoustic rendition of “Real Estate,” before finishing with the lead single from The Diary of Living, “Room On Your Shoulder.”
The energy in the room was buzzing with positive energy after the show as Adam took time to greet fans - signing vinyls, t-shirts, and posing for photos. Adam Melchor’s music has a way of making you feel like you’re receiving a warm hug, and seeing him live is always a treat. The album release tour closes on May 20th with a sold-out show in LA and The Diary of Living is available to stream on all platforms.
